Corrected Qt Dispersion in Children with Isolated Uncomplicated Mitral Valve Prolapse
نویسندگان
چکیده
Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a relatively frequent valvular abnormality. In both children and adults with MVP, an increased incidence of ventricular arrhythmias has been reported. QT dispersion, defined as the difference in duration between the longest QT interval and the shortest one, for a given set of electrocardiographic leads has been proposed as a sign of regional difference in cardiac repolarization and as a marker of increased risk of ventricular arrhythmias. This study was designed to compare the corrected QT dispersion (QT c D) in children with isolated uncomplicated prolapse with a normal age-and sex-matched group of children. Twenty children with MVP (mean+SD age: 8+5 years) and thirty normal children enrolled in the study. Corrected QT dispersion was manually calculated on their surface electrocardiogram in all of them. QT c D was 39+14.7 and 40+15.2 milliseconds respectively. An unpaired Student t-test was performed. There was no significant difference between the mean value of the two groups (p value<0.01). The findings of our study, besides the reports of increased QT dispersion in adults, suggest that increased QT dispersion in patients with MVP is a time-evolved phenomenon and does not exist from the very early years of age. متن کاملQT Variables of Isolated Mitral Valve Prolapse
Purpose: It is thought that arrhythmias are responsible for sudden deaths in patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP). QT intervals may predict malignant arrhythmia potential in these patients. The aim of the present study is to assess QT variables in patients with MVP. Methods : We studied 46 patients with non-rheumatic, uncomplicated and isolated MVP and 25 healthy control subjects. All indi...

AIM To investigate ventricular arrhythmias in children with primary mitral valve prolapse and to evaluate its relation with QT length, QT dispersion, autonomic function tests and heart rate variability measurements. MATERIAL AND METHODS Fourty two children with mitral valve prolapse and 32 healthy children were enrolled into the study. Twelve-lead electrocardiograms, autonomic function tests,...
متن کاملRelation between QT dispersion and ventricular arrhythmias in uncomplicated isolated mitral valve prolapse.
Complications of mitral valve prolapse (MVP), among which serious ventricular arrhythmia and sudden death are of major importance, affect many individuals due to the high incidence of MVP itself in the community despite the actual low incidence of these complications. The present study investigated the incidence and distribution of ventricular arrhythmias according to their severity and relatio...
متن کاملAssociation between the severity of chest pain and the severity of mitral valve prolapse in children
Introduction: One of the causes of chest pain in children is mitral valve prolapse (MVP). This study aimed to investigate the association between the severity of chest pain and the severity of MVP. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was designed on 103 children aged 7 to 18 years suffering from MVP along with chest pain. By using echocardiography, severity of MVP was assessed in ...
